Just out of curiosity..... did Jamie amandelio get a look in? thought he was aust standing coach, thought he would at least be assistant. Never would have thought mr knight would have been picked, is he even coaching at the moment? with the nsw premier league strongest competition in the country, i would have thought a coach would be selected from there as they have the highest experience. i would have picked ja as head coach and rv as assistant.

does anyone know if there were multiple interviews. did any other coaches get interviewed. or did steve knight get the job as he was the last assistant to scott gilligan. wonder how steve and rob will get along. maybe they thought ja was too young for the job.

Knighty coaches at Macarbi i believe.. trying to develop players in the lower league to strengthen the sport......... think it comes down to coaching qualifications not if u coach a winning team.... no offence to JA but his only had one NSW gig and is it the 2nd year in prem league... give the man a bit of time to develop and gain a bit more experience b4 throwing him in the deep end.. being an australian player and being an australian coach i think are two completely different things... im sure he will get his turn in the years to come!

slowmotion if that is the case what coaching qualifications does steven knight have that would give him the job. do you mean qualifications on paper or do you mean a coach that is qualified in terms of what they have done in there coaching career. you make good sense in your comments but would love to know what people and yourself classify as qualified. surely we dont pick coaches according to what paperwork they contain in there c.v's. every doctor has qualifications but doesn't mean they are all the best for the job. does rob varela's spainish level 1, which for those who dont know can be obtained via the internet, make him more qualified than somebody else.

For those who have been in the game for a long time, would all agree that Stevie Knight deserves the opportunity once again. It was quite some years back when Knighty Coached the Australian team. That was well before Jimmy Roberts came along & stuffed things up as Aussie coach. Knighty has played & coached at Aussie level & i really think it was a no Brainer giving him the top coaching job. Rob Verela has alot of experience & both Rob & Knighty get on well, again a very obvious selection. Rob with his experience at the helm of Solomans will be great support & he has alot to offer the Aussie team. Why the suprise !!!!
JA did well last year & helped his NSW team achieve something a number of coaches before him, have not been able to do for a number of years. That only intitles him to get the main GIG as Thunder coach & rightly so, with Knighty as Lightning coach. However that does not mean he should get the Aussie job, irrespective of what the criteria or interview selection was cause i really don't no.
I think coaching certificates coupled with Knighty's experience makes him the right man for the job. All this should have been enough for Joe Brent to give Knighty the job back then rather than Jimmy. Its certainly enough to give him & Rob a shot now.
